9 Sept - Osmotherley to Great Broughton

What a delightful village Osmotherley is, well worth getting off the track to stay here. The Golden Lion proved to be an excellent choice of where to stay.
We started the day off well - getting it all down to a fine art now by dressing the blisters after a shower, labelling the luggage for their next destination followed by a yummy brekky with the appropriate pills!
We met the clock keeper, who rewinds the church clock daily, last night and had arranged to meet us at 0940 to see the workings etc but he didn't turn up. Had a good look at St Peters church which has a 15th century tower and a long nave and chancel with medievil walls. At the back of the church is a stunning cross stitched plan of the village with knitting and porcelain pieces added in. It's quite charming.
We thought today was going to be a doddle but.....we climbed up and walked down many hills/mountains (testing the blisters and knees!) through the North York National Park - part of the Yorkshire Moors. There was iridescent heather as far as the eyes could see with stunning views one kept wanting to take photos. This area is known to be the worlds largest expanse of heather. We we're lucky to have perfect weather today. We walked through the Scarth Wood, Live, Carlton, and Cringle Moors.
We followed Cleveland Way which had the emblem of an acorn on the posts and LWW meaning Lyke Wake Walk. This is 40 miles and is the complete crossing of the Yorkshire Moors. Sighted grouse for the first time.
Today the Queen becomes the longest reigning Monarch in Englsh history. Caught up on news at lunch when we stopped at Lordstones bar and restaurant in the middle of the Moors. It was a much needed rest to tend to our feet or knees! Ang is the only girl with no problems (boys nil between them).
We finished today's walk at Clay Bank Top where we were picked up by a complimentary car to our accommodation at Wainstones Hotel in Great Broughton as it is 3kms off the C2C route.

The Golden Lion where we stayed. Much better inside!

St Peter's Osmotherley.

The beautiful tapestry, cross stitch, knitting and porcelain framed Osmotherley.

Beautiful stone terraced cottages built in Osmotherley for the workers of the flax mill years ago.

These single stone cottages are dotted about.

Dave's head is hopefully healing well under that fixamol after a nasty knock in the first week.

Paving stones have been laid to protect the Moore.

My poor feet! Amazing how good natural wool helps.

Yes there is a path there.

Felt exhilarated clambering onto that rock. This area is known as Wain Stones.

Coming down a very steep incline, not good on Dave's knees.

The acorn and LLW signage. Down this pathway for 200 metres to the road and car for transport to our accommodation as it is 3kms off the Wainwright C2C track.

Enjoying our pub dinner. Chicken or meat and ale pie, salmon, lamb chops or steak ( only had one successful feed) with vegies of chips/new potatoes, broccoli, cauli and carrots. Every now and then there is a slight change to a menu.
