Good wander around the town looking for a decent coffee. Finally found one to be told its 1200 lunch time thus only coffee with food! Relaxed under umbrellas outside Hotel de Ville in the rain. Coffee €3 ea
Michael kept a running commentary of the Eagles/Gold Coast Suns game from his mobile. A disappointing drawer.
Most of the shops here have English speaking lyrics. Good shops but no purchases.
Many dogs on leads throughout the town- sadly no sign of poo bags though.
We tried visiting the Castle of Savoy to find only a French speaking tour and no access to anyone else as it was closed on Saturdays.
There are many different small tunnelled streets all leading into busy squares. The tunnels, apart from linking streets, predominately have residential units leading from them.
We have noticed most waiters are male. Had a great meal of fillet with foie gras and truffle and a red wine from St Emillion - last night here in Chambery. We have got by very well with the few French words we have picked up. In most cases, am able to find an English speaking person nearby if necessary.
The Saturday markets - not as good as Sth Melbourne markets.
Now it is raining! Outside the Town Hall which was built in 1862. Part of the Hôtel de Ville square was rebuilt after the 1944 bombings which destroyed a third of the old town.
Place Saint - Léger - a lively street when it wasn't raining, lined with colourful houses and is the heart of Chambery historic town centre and has been a pedestrian area since the late 70's.
Chambery from above. A great climb up steep roads and many steps in the drizzling rain.
A small part of The castle of the Dukes of Savoy that was closed.
Small alleys connecting little courtyards and private residentially.
Typical alleys everywhere lined with restaurants.
