12 August - London

Long walk to the Thames from Dalston. On our way we visited Geffrye House which was an almshouse built in 1714. From 1714 to 1912, this house was the home for the elderly poor, with up to 50 pensioners living here at any one time. It is now a museum with history of English homes over the past 400 years with displays of furniture, wallpaper and paintings and an amazing garden of herbs and greenery.
We had lunch at the Borough Markets. What amazing displays of food every corner we turned.
Came home exhausted then got ready to go to the show "Beautiful" with Helen and Sue.
Drinks with the Chiswells before catching the tram.

Geffrye House entrance.

The Borough Markets.

This amazing curry was my lunch.

Shucking oysters - £1.50 ($3) each!

The Gerkhin - dwarfed these days.

A typical outdoor pub. Tour guide checking an alternative route on foot back to Dalston.

The Tower Bridge.

30 St Mary Axe commonly know as The Gerkhin, is a commercial skyscraper with 41 stories standing 180 metres. It was completed in Dec 2003. There is construction going on all around it.

Drinks with Beth and Ian before going to the theatre.

After seeing the musical "Beautiful" with Sue and Helen. It is the story of Carole King which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
