16 August - London

What a great quiet morning sleeping in, reading papers and catching up on the blog!
Helen and Nick had another surprise instore for us for the afternoon. Told to be ready to leave their apartment with our Oyster cards at 1230. A walk, then underground to Richmond, a lovely walk along the Thames through a deer park then through gates, more walking, walking passed a few great looking restaurants then through "love gates" to an open field with cows, walking down a narrow tree lined walkway to our destination. The Petersham Nurseries Cafe is a place of calm away from the bustle of London. It is an Internationally prized garden centre with greenhouse cafes and tea rooms. In 2004 this was transformed with furniture, antiques and gifts amongst flowers and plants with head chief Skye Gyndell and in 2011 the Petersham Nurseries Cafe was awarded their first Michelin star. They apparently lost this a year later due to complaints about the rustic earthen floor!
Home 1800 after an amazing time to pack for our early start tomorrow.

A typical English pub.

The Gate House - the only remains of the Richmond Palace.

Walking along the Thames in Richmond.

Richmond Bridge. Loved the reflections.

Quite comical seeing this dog relaxing in this chair while his master is fishing.

Some of the restaurants we passed by.

Still walking.....

Petersham Nurseries Cafe.

Dessert was too tempting!

Another quaint "doggy" site. Even had his water on the table!

The Tea House.

Retracing our steps after lunch.

These cows had a saddle of white around their bellies.
